Periodontal Services

We provide tailored, specialist care with a focus on gum health (Periodonitics) and dental implants to replace missing teeth, including full mouth implants (All on X concept). We also specialise in the management of implant complications (Peri Implantitis) and implant maintenance.

Gum Disease

Periodontitis, also known as gum disease, is a common chronic condition that currently affects approximately nine million Australians.

It derives from bacteria under the gum that causes inflammation, which leads to destruction of the periodontal ligament and bone holding the tooth.

Untreated periodontitis leads to destruction of the supporting bone around teeth and can eventually lead to the loss of a tooth or several teeth and is the leading cause of tooth loss in people of 40 years of age.

Fortunately, gum disease can be treated predictably and successfully managed, which is why we are dedicated to providing you and your teeth with expert care, protection, and ongoing management.

Gum Recession

Gum recession occurs when the gum line pulls away from the teeth, exposing the roots and leading to sensitivity, a “long-tooth” appearance, and increased risk of decay.

It can develop from factors such as periodontal disease, aggressive brushing, genetics, or teeth grinding.

We specialise in diagnosing the underlying cause of recession and restoring lost tissue with advanced techniques such as minimally invasive grafting.

Early assessment and personalised treatment can protect your teeth, improve comfort, and enhance your smile’s aesthetics.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. They act as artificial tooth roots, made from biocompatible titanium, that fuse with the jawbone to provide a strong, stable foundation for a custom-made crown.

Implants look and function similar to natural teeth — allowing you to eat, smile, and speak with confidence.

As specialists in gum and bone health, periodontists are uniquely trained to plan and place implants with precision, ensuring long-term success and optimal aesthetics.

Whether you’re replacing a single tooth or multiple teeth, we tailor every treatment to your individual needs to restore both comfort and oral health.

We ensure an optimal experience which is supported and provided to you with the latest equipment and technology including but not limited to; Surgical microscope, Intraoral scanner, 3D printer, implant planning and placement software.

Dental Implant complications

Implants are a predictable long term solution in replacing teeth and in fact it is estimated that between 50 000 and 100 000 implants are placed in Australia each year.

Due to our specialist training in the area of gum disease and implants, periodontists are the best positioned dental specialists for managing any problems arising during or after implant placement such as gum infection around your implant (Peri Implantitis), broken implants (implant fracture) or gum recession.

We believe that prevention is better than cure, so always consider who is placing your implant and what level of training they have, but if you have had an implant placed and have had subsequent problems, be assured that we will be able to help you in the best way.

Full Arch reconstruction

As gum specialists, we are focused on saving your teeth and always consider ways which are more conservative, less complex, less costly and often deliver better long term results than having all your teeth removed. Often teeth that were extracted could have been saved and maintained.

However, if you are in the position that your teeth are failing and need to be replaced, this can be done in a variety of ways.

We are the only dental specialist clinic in Tasmania providing this service and will assess and thoroughly discuss different treatment options which may range from removable options such dentures, implant supported dentures (over denture) or full arch fixed reconstructions similar to the “All on 4” or “All on X” concept.

To ensure that you obtain the best treatment possible, we work closely with Prosthodontists (Dental Specialists for Crowns, Bridges and Replacement of Teeth) from “the Dental Specialist” and “ProMax”.
